I’ve taken a break from writing websites for 10 minutes to comment on the current weather – and to post my photograph of Middleham’s new… water feature (right).
As I look out of the office window, over Middleham, and Lower Wensleydale, I can see a rather large lake of water where there once was a field full of cows with a river running through it.
Today’s floods have caused a lot of trouble on the roads and railways in the North of England, too.
As I hunt, desperately, for silver linings in the clouds that mean our UPS courier cannot come to collect a package which CityLink failed to collect on Friday and Monday (for non-weather reasons!), I came up with the following list…
Things that are good about heavy rain and flooding in Wensleydale:
- It Makes the Waterfalls of Wensleydale look great – awe-inspiring levels of water powering down through steps carved into limestone… if only you can get to Redmire Falls, Aysgarth Falls or Hardraw Force. There’s a good waterfall in Harmby and Wensley, if you can’t; and
- If you are at School, there’s a good chance you won’t be today. I remember: as a lad there were few better days than weather-induced holidays.
That’s the end of the list. Leave your own reasons to be cheerful in the public comments section below.
Be careful and stay safe in the floods!
