Web directories used to be the way people found things on the internet. Probably the biggest free directories were Yahoo!, DMOZ and Google.
Most of these directories are now discontinued. DMOZ closed its doors for the final time in 2017, and Yahoo! is basically not a directory any more. The Google Directory, too, is no more, as the web has expanded and become more sophisticated.
Niche local directories may still play a role in marketing in the late 2010s, but when we are talking free directories, we’re probably likely talking about a historical reference rather than a hard hitting tool to help you reach new customers and clients going forward.
